Fabrication record
What aluminium roof lanterns can actually be built to
These are the limits the factory works to, taken from the fabrication data for the system we make this product in. Premium routes in the same family reach better thermal and acoustic figures than the ones below, and are quoted where the project calls for them. Either way this is the envelope, not a quotation: the achievable figures for your opening are confirmed against your drawings and a survey.
| Frame sightline | 90mm |
|---|---|
| Panels per run | 1 to 4 |
| Leaf width | 350 to 1200mm |
| Height | 400 to 2400mm |
| Maximum leaf weight | 120kg |
| Glazing unit | 24 to 44mm |
| Glazing options | Double |
| U-value from, this system | 1.1 W/m²K |
| Security | Fixed structural-glazed rooflight (not a security-rated opening). |
Configurations available
- Kerb-mounted structural-glazed rooflight
- 2-sided / 4-sided structural silicone glazed
- single-bay and multi-bay (rafter-bar) configurations
- suitable for slopes up to 15 degrees (recommended installed slope 3-5 degrees over the kerb).
Any security rating above is the tested performance of the system, held by the system manufacturer. VitrineAlu fabricates to the tested configuration and holds no certification of its own. Evidence for the configuration you specify is issued at quote.

See your aluminium roof lanterns to scale
Use the concept visualiser to explore approximate size, opening, glazing, finish and detailing before a quote request. It is a discussion aid, not a production drawing or evidence of technical suitability; current project review confirms the selected aluminium roof lanterns route.
Trade accounts only. Apply for one, or send drawings for an estimate instead.
For homes

VitrineAlu supplies through the trade. Send a referral request and we will review the product route before any installer handoff, and your details are only passed on with your consent. Your installation contract and warranty remain with the installer you choose to proceed with.

How we specify
The right product route is chosen per project
Exact specification (U-value, sizes, weights, security class, finish) is confirmed per project at quote, selected to suit the trade brief.
It means you lead with the outcome: light, security, clean sightlines, usable openings, buildable details and a specification that suits the drawings.
More on how routes are specified: security and PAS 24 routes and energy efficiency and U-values.
Common questions
What size roof lantern can I have over an extension?
Lanterns are sized from your structural opening rather than a fixed range, so the limit is the opening, the roof build-up and the weight the structure carries - up to 75 kg where specified. Send the opening size, the pitch or kerb detail and the extension drawings and we will confirm the size at quote.
What U-value does an aluminium roof lantern reach?
Thermally broken aluminium lanterns reach whole-unit U-values from 1.0 W/m²K where specified, with double or triple glazing. A roof lantern sits in the coldest plane of the building, so the glass make-up moves the result more than it would in a wall. We confirm the figure for your unit at quote.
Do I need a kerb, and what do you need from me to quote?
A lantern needs an upstand or kerb to sit on, and its detail changes the finished height and the weathering. Send the structural opening size, the roof build-up and the pitch or kerb detail, plus your glazing, colour and thermal target. Drawings or extension plans let us check the fit before anything is fabricated. Start at quote.
What colours are available on a roof lantern?
Full RAL range, powder coated, and the inside face can differ from the outside where the room and the roof want different colours. Finish is set per project alongside the glazing, and confirmed at quote.
Can I order a roof lantern on its own?
Roof lanterns are supplied as a package add-on to a wider trade glazing order rather than as a single-item purchase. If you are already sending us doors or windows for a project, add the lantern to the same schedule and it is quoted, fabricated and delivered with them. Send the schedule through quote.
